I met Nelson Castillo at the Immigration March and within seconds we were talking to New York State Assemblyman Jose Rivera who spotted me and came over to say hello. We soon joined others to talk about the GED for the immigrants.
I met old friends and spoke to new ones.
REDUCING THE GAP IN EDUCATION
I have repeatedly written that the education of the millions of immigrants has been neglected by everyone in this country. I found leaders in Washington, D.C. that want to work with El Quijote del GED. The "GED on Wheels" can be brought into states where those organizations have chapters and combined with the leadership of Civil Rights'organizations the great gap in education can be reduced over the next five years.

I would like to give special recognition to Saul Linares of Nassau County who walked to Washingon D.C. from New York. He is a Salvadoran immigrant who champions the GED for people. He graduated with the GED and invited me to his graduation years ago and he recently invited me to speak to Day Workers on a cold morning in Farmingville, New York. I was not able to connect with him at the immigrant march because I had to attend the Haitian Diaspora Forum at the Organization of American States.
